The Divine Appointment
By Jerome Teel
Genre: Fiction/Christian/General
(This is coming directly from the back of the book)
Jessica Caldwell hates the day she met him, and she hates him even more. But now the two of them will be connected forever…
Eli Faulkner is one of the best trial lawyers in Tennessee. It’s what he lives for – righting injustices. When he’s called upon to devend Tag Grissom, an arrogant cardiologist accused of murder, he finds himself wondering, could this be more than just a case?
Holland Fletcher has always wanted to be a true investigative journalist, but he’s never really stepped up to the plate. That is, until he receives an anonymous tip and is plunged into a dangerous realm of intrigue and murder that involves not only the Supreme Court, but the entire nation.
I know, I know, I have an entire list of books I want to read, and this one isn’t one of them. I went to the library on a whim last week. I’ve been increasingly busy and just haven’t taken the time to read. I told Justin I wanted to get a book, and came out with two (because you KNOW if you leave the library with just ONE book chances are you aren’t going to like it and will just put it down.) Anyway it was just a run and grab type trip, not a search for a book on my list trip.
This book caught my eye because of the title. Very Christian-y. I read the back because I wanted to find out if it was Christian or coincidence. It’s not very often I run into a Christian, non-scary/thriller, non-romance novel. I picked it up, and I’m glad I did. Honestly I’m tired of the romance novels (especially Christian ones – sorry romance lovers) because the storys end up being very similar. Different characters, same story. At least that’s been my experience. So this was a fresh experience for me, a Christian book (clean of cussing and explicit scenes that leave nothing to the imagination) but still very…I won’t say mainstream, because I don’t think that is what I mean. It was good. It had action, it had God, it had good character interaction. It has stuff you deal with in the real world. Well..okay, not EVERYONE finds a case that interlocks with the President of the United States, but I mean – murder, betrayal, adultery, action, politics – and even a tiny bit of romance, ladies! All of that is in there, and addressed. About the time the author introduced Holland I had unraveled his story map in my head (except the twist at the end) but that didn’t ruin it for me. I love books, and how they are put together. I love thinking you know how this is going to end, but not really – so you must press in. I love that it was clean and real.
I believe I will be checking out Jerome Teel’s first book, The Election, next time around – although I have a feeling that I may have already been introduced to the main character of the story!
If you are looking for Christian authors (and I’m sure they can use all the support we can give them! Of course checking them out at the library probably isn’t doing it huh?) and like sort of a John Grisham (first person I could think of) type novel, check this one out!
